12311245_10208086432017485_1881866925362747982_n(3)Kalena is a Tennessee girl through and through. Born and raised in Johnson City, TN, she attended East Tennessee State University for undergrad, earning her degree in Elementary Education. “I’ve worked in Elementary schools, but most of my background is actually in sales,” says Kalena. “For several years I recruited, trained, and managed college students giving in-home presentations for Cutco Cutlery.”

“I have one older sister, 2 beautiful nieces, and have lived in East Tennessee my entire life… until last September,” she says. “That’s when I packed up my car and moved to Los Angeles. I wanted to embark on better opportunities and have several friends here, so I couch surfed until January when I finally got my own place.”

“Kalena has a heart of gold and a go-getter personality,” says Executive Director, Michael Chiang. Joining the Crescent team in November as a Junior recruiter, her knowledge of tech was limited. “I knew nothing,” she says, “but I love the position because it’s challenging and I get a sense of peace knowing that I’m able to help people find a career that fits their needs.

“Some random facts about me… I love dogs, mint chocolate ice cream, and I’m a huge Duke basketball fan,” she says. “I love football, coffee, great scotch, and comedy,” plus she secretly writes poetry and listens to opera music! “She’s the definition of well-rounded,” says colleague Airrel Watkins. “It’s been wonderful watching her grow over the past few months.”
